Guidebook

I’m a writer so with that comes also a love for reading. I’ve always been a reader but I have to admit that I haven’t read anywhere near as much as I’d like to in the past few years but as I’ve been more intentional about resetting my dopamine diet I’ve started reading again.

My favorite genres are of course romantic fiction because I’m a lover girl deep down, autobiography(Steve Jobs and Phil Knight’s) are two of my favorites and lastly motivational and self help. (bonus:I LOVE a thesaurus)

I like motivational and self help more than anything because I like having a guide for a positive life. Especially anything that can direct us on how to live mindfully, abundantly, happy and prosperously because if you don’t have a guidebook on how to do these things how will you know? And personally it’s a way to keep my soul and spirit light. The world depends on us to live in a heightened state of dread, dystopia, fear, comparison, sadness, depression, gloom, lack, scarcity and unhappiness. If people are happy, content, mindful and aware they can’t sell us alcohol, distractions, drugs, junky food, porn, and everything else meant to keep us disconnected from our higher selves and each other.

It’s up to us to reverse that mindset and live another way.

I’m currently reading a book called “You Can Create An Exceptional Life” by Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson and there are so many gems that you can’t help but to put the book down and be inspired, motivated or at the very least curious on whether or not a mindset shift is possible or that it really works. (Thank God I’m a curious person) I try to read a few pages before I go to sleep as a mind reset and to ease any distress I may have from the day.

The book doesn’t tell you to replace feelings with affirmations or to use them to avoid the truth because feelings are valuable. Allow yourself to feel and then you let go, don’t suffer unnecessarily. Don’t hold on to the bad memories taking up space in your mind. The book teaches us how to use the power of affirmation to re-center ourselves before or instead of spiraling because of rampant unchecked emotions or life’s obstacles. Also keeping in mind that this way of life isn’t like popcorn where you get a finished product in 8 minutes. It’s a practice, which every time you get the opportunity to put into play, you do so.

I know for a fact that this is a book I’ll read twice but here are some takeaways I’ve gotten thus far. I hope they can enlighten you to find the hope and zeal for the life that we are given:

*Smile with your liver

*I prosper wherever I turn

*Only good lies before me

*Life loves me, and all of my needs are met at all times

*(repeat in a mirror) We are getting through this. I love you and I’m here for you

*(and my most favorite Louise Hay quote) All is well, everything is working for my highest good and out of this situation only good will come and I am safe

Resetting your self concept is no easy task, especially if you are addicted to negative self talk but maybe a page a day in a good self help book can get you to think more positively about yourself and life on a whole. Pick one affirmation and repeat it to yourself until you believe it.

You can do it
